My Tarot Approach and Style

The best word I use to describe what I do as a tarologist is I am ‘intuitive’ but I have also studied the symbolism, meanings and method of reading using the work of Jodorowsky, Rosengarten, Elias and Enriquez.

I love what I do as a Tarot Coach and that is because I value the number one thing for this work and that is your autonomy and free will. A tarot reading should never take away your free will, but instead reinforce it. Ironically, it is the circumstances and situations around us that are the prohibitive forces and that is what we have free will to respond to…the cards help you understand those forces and situations…then you have more information to act…

My tarot training began in 2001 when I trained in The Mythic Tarot and I just read for friends and family for a few years…then I put my cards down for a long time…

In this long period of gestation and study I became very interested in the spiritual domains of knowledge and practice. I became interested in yoga philosophy, Buddhism, healing, Reiki, psychism, energy healing, emotional freedom technique, quantum healing, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Hinduism, meditation, the ascended masters, counselling, psychotherapy, depth psychology, trauma, narcissism, schizophrenia, bipolar, neurodiversity, sexuality and culture to name a few.

I became very interested in the concepts of karma and reincarnation and in particular the concept of prarabhda karma – which means the karma we are integrating and processing in this lifetime. When I came back to the tarot and was giving readings I noticed that the individual and family karma came through the cards and my clients were saying that is exactly how it is with their parents or ex-partners or children. Their work colleagues, managers and peers were also being represented in the cards and helping the client understand their purpose and lessons in these relationships.

Readings provided insights of the purpose of this karma and lessons being learned in one’s family and why certain people have crossed our paths. I was also finding that the cards were giving information on the balance between our spiritual work on this plane to become more self-realised and actualised as well as develop our relationships and serve others through our work and businesses. And so counselling and coaching approaches seemed to be a good integration with tarology work.

Then I had some conversations about the subject with my nan, who used to be in a white witches coven in London for some years and used tarot and other divination methods. We sometimes talked about it and our experiences with clients and friends. She later passed away on the 8th May 2021 at the age of 96.

In 2023 I met a medium and my nan attended that and gave some rather insightful and deep messages. One of the messages she gave was asking me to pick up the tarot cards again but integrate it with the work I was already doing in my private practice and so My Tarot Coach was born.

Since then I have done a foundation 10 week course in tarot reading with the College of Psychic Studies and an Accredited Practitioners Diploma in Tarot with Gateway. I have been studying the Alejandro Jodorowsky and Arthur Rosengarten work and I also like the style of Camelia Elias and Enrique Enriquez.

Now I offer you tarot readings for your prarabhda karma and life path to help you find a deeper understanding and meaning in what is happening in your life.

I do not offer advice but just an interpretation of what the cards are saying that only you know is true. The reading helps you integrate this understanding so you can move forward with a greater sense of purpose and meaning in your relationships, families and work and most of all your spiritual essence of who you really are.

The Swiss Marseille Tarot Deck by Irene Torres

I use the Swiss Marseille Tarot deck designed by Irene Torres of Naipes Artesanos in Spain:

They are a beautiful set of cards – in fact the best I have had the pleasure of using. They are based on 18th century Swiss decks. The painting is authentic and refreshing and creates a nice rapport with the images and characters that provide a good reading and interpretation.

Tarot Card Spreads

I offer a range of spreads depending on whether this is the first reading or follow-up readings. I have a specific spread for relationship analysis and the concept of the twin-flame or half souls. Below is an example of an initial spread for a new client. It begins with the first three cards of the Major Arcana in the middle row showing the present moment followed by a pip (number) card to add some more guidance. Then we explore the next row of three cards below that from the Majors representing the past (causes) and a pip card. And finally the top three cards of the Majors representing the future with another pip card. I use pip cards for more specific detail in the action for the client required for development.

Over a course of sessions we get to know the dynamics of your family, your past, background, experiences, relationships and each reading provides deeper insights to your individual karma, family karma and life goals.

The basic structure of the readings are based on the work of Jodorowsky & Costa The Way of Tarot and Rosengarten’s Tarot & Psychology. Camelia Elias offers a nice card interpretation style in her books. Enrique Enriquez is just completely out-of-the-box and brings something very different to interpreting tarot that I like. I also integrate my work based in person-centred counselling of Carl Rogers, Cognitive & Behavioural Therapy and the Depth Psychology of Carl Jung. I also draw on the eastern philosophies of the main religions: Buddhism, Hinduism and mystical Islam and Christianity, as well as the spirituality of shamanic work, energisation practices like yoga philosophy, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, martial arts and meditation knowledge and practices.

My coaching approach lends itself well to my tarot readings as coaching is focused on helping you establish a good understanding of your past and present situation, its gifts and challenges so you can build a way forward towards empowerment, knowledge, creative goals and self-actualisation.

The 9 card spread (plus pips and shadow) builds from the base up presenting the forces operating in your life, significant players and gives a good foundation spread to build all others upon. Here are the 40 Pip cards:

Who am I?

Helping people has been a significant part of much of my career in therapies, education, supporting and appraising staff in primary and further education in the UK, India, Sri Lanka, Brazil and New Zealand. I have supported teaching staff in the prison, hospitality, early childhood education and youth work sectors and teachers in primary school through professional development courses and workshops based on their own goals and aspirations.

Since then I have trained in hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy, life coaching, mentoring, worked in rape and sexual abuse and been in private practice since 2013. I am a tutor for Chrysalis Courses for their hypnotherapy, counselling and psychotherapy diplomas. I also provide one day workshops in PTSD & Trauma, Shame & Narcissism and Understanding Personality Disorders.

I provide workshops in spirituality occasionally at the Romsey Wisdom Centre in Hampshire including Personal Mythology and Life Narrative, and meditation days based on the writings in the Gospel of Thomas and St John of the Cross.

I have learned and taught yoga, meditation, therapeutic body massage and Reiki. I have learned Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Ashtanga Yoga, Hatha Yoga and now practice Kriya Yoga, the method of Self Realisation as taught by Paramahansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi. I pursued these paths when I lived in Brazil, India and New Zealand. I returned to the UK in 2012.

I enjoy walking, cycling, painting, playing the Indian harmonium and kartels, singing bhajans and spending as much time as possible in communion with Great Spirit.
